| Me being super happy about waffles on May 19. Pictured with my friend Ashley at Funk N Waffles in Downtown Syracuse. |
Never, NEVER give me a piece of French toast (I will actually never actually eat it because they are always too eggy to me and I don't eat eggs). Do not, do NOT give me a pancake (I will eat it only if it's crispy golden and extremely fluffy). Please, PLEASE give me a waffle (I will be happy).
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. From iced coffee, substitute bacon, to potatoes and waffles, how could one possibly say no? I love diners. I really do. They are usually extremely cheesy, with bad vinyl booths and virtually the same universal menu.
Being both a picky eater and vegetarian, it's always hard to find something to eat at a diner or cafe. When in doubt, a waffle with a side of some sort of potato. When waffles started to pop up on menus in restaurants paired with chicken and started to have their own restaurants I couldn't be more excited. A waffle with gouda cheese inside of it? Sounds great. A waffle made with brownie mix? I'll take it. A waffle with ice cream on top? My friend Franny would say that is just a waffle but to me it was great.
Syracuse is home to countless authentic diners and waffles restaurants are coming in everywhere. Funk N Waffles has two locations, one downtown and on the Syracuse University campus. Modern Malt in the latest restaurant to fall to the fad and frequents itself in downtown Syracuse and offers a wide variety of waffles, like the red velvet option. Stella's, The Gem and Mother's Cupboard are among my favorite diners in Syracuse that cater to my waffle needs.
