A pineapple a day will keep me away

I am NOT a fashion person. Never have, never will be. If you give me a fashion magazine I will likely look at the photography concepts in advertisements and layout of the magazine with more focus than the actual content. I once had to ask my friend and fashion communications student Raquel the difference of the meanings "trendy" and "fashionable" (there's a big difference apparently. Don't make the same mistake I did). I also asked her to explain the the recent pineapple trend in fashion but she couldn't. Who can?

Why does this exist and why is it $17? Who needs this?
So can someone, ANYONE, explain this pineapple trend in fashion to me? Whenever someone I don't go to college with says something about fashion I always jokingly say, "I go to fashion school. I know everything." Yes, I go to fashion school but I do not study fashion so can someone explain this sudden, WEIRD, obsession that the fashion industry has with pineapples this season?

I shop A LOT. And when I say a lot, I probably mean more than the normal person. I work at two different malls and at one point in my life I thought I had an online shopping addiction. So why is it all of a sudden that pineapples have been in my every direction since spring collections came out?

The pineapples are everywhere. They are on decorative plates, the dresses at the kid's clothing store I work at, even my 45-year old aunt has a tank top with a bedazzled pineapple on it. It's on phone cases, socks, shorts, purses in the shapes of pineapples. Why is Spongebob's home and an inhabitant of fruit salad suddenly the biggest thing in fashion?

Like any other trained journalist, I used my acquired set of skills and did some Googling. The only thing I could find is fashion bloggers and websites alike LOVING the trend and no explanation to this sudden high trend of the unspeakable fruit everywhere. Some suggested the best part of the trend to be the color yellow. It's a great color for spring and summer and light colors look great with a tan so does that explain it? That is just my own guess.

I did some more Googling. All I could find were more listicles and more examples of the trend. I found more examples of pineapples in fashion and everyday items that I could have never dreamed of. I found pineapple ice cube trays, pineapple earrings, pineapple-shaped candle (is it also scented?), and the base of a lamp in the shape of a pineapple. Why do we need so many pineapples, EVERYWHERE???

I know that pineapples are in season. Like, they are in literal season and are blooming and growing for us to eat but shouldn't it be more than that? Pineapples are a summer treat and this trend is for the summer. Is that an explanation? I've noticed that palm trees have been popular for the last few years so it must be time for a new symbol of the tropic.
There are so many unanswered questions that the world may never know. This journalist has given up for the time being.
